If you are a citizen of another country with temporary residence in Denmark, you can use an International Driving Permit (translation of your driver's license) along with a valid foreign driver's license.
You are allowed to drive the same vehicle classes in Denmark as stated on your foreign driver's license.
You can find more information about licenses and driving in Denmark in the links below.
Exchange of driver's license
You can exchange your foreign driver's license for a Danish driver's license at Kalundborg citizen service.
You need to bring:
- A medical certificate issued by your own doctor if:
- your driver's license was issued outside the Faroe Islands, Greenland, or an EU/EEA country. A fee will apply.
- your foreign driver's license is expiring soon or has already expired.
- A photograph.
- Your driver's license.
- A valid passport.
- Valid residence permit or residence certificate if you are not a Danish or Nordic citizen or if you do not have legal permission to stay in Denmark without a permit.
Borgerservice may also require a translation of your foreign driver's license. The translation must be from a public authority or an organization authorized to do so in the issuing country.
If you do not have a valid passport, bring your original babtism certificate, name certificate, or birth certificate along with a form of photo identification.
